Winter Finally Starts in Australia but it’s Not So Good in New Zealand

It’s been a poor start to the season with some resorts unable to open. Those that did had precious little skiing on offer. Now snow is falling in Australia with more in the forecast. UPDATED

Thredbo in New South Wales was one of the resorts unable to open earlier in June.

That has now changed with 20cm falling earlier in the week, and another 20cm possible as another storm now rolls in.

Cold temperatures are also forecast and that should preserve the fresh snow.

Perisher, was only able to open a magic carpet on June 10th as we reported at the time:

Now plenty of snow has fallen and winter is underway.

The resort is planning to open all four of its mountains to skiers & snowboarders later this week.

We reported as the first snow fell last week:

In the ski state of Victoria it’s a similar picture.

On Saturday night into Sunday Mt Buller saw 14cm of fresh snow and a chill in the air.

Falls Creek in Victoria also saw the snow.

Further south it has been a good start overall in New Zealand.

However the temperatures have warmed up and rain has been falling in some resorts.
