Skiing Continues in the USA

Excellent recent snow has meant some resorts are extending their season. Others are closing with good overall conditions.

This winter generally got off to a poor start in the USA with the snow arriving late.

Now though there are above average amounts in some resorts with people flocking to the slopes.

In Utah some resorts have extended their season after good falls of snow this Spring.

If the weather continues to play ball a hand full of resorts plan to continue with a couple hoping to open into May.

  • Alta: April 21st
  • Deer Valley: April 21st
  • Park City: April 22nd
  • Brighton: April 28th
  • Snowbasin: April 28th
  • Brian Head: May 5th
  • Snowbird: Through at least May 27th

Resorts in Colorado have also seen good recent snow.

Winter Park’s base is at 12% above normal.

Vail and Steamboat have base depths that are 10% above average for the time of year.

Eleven areas have bases standing at 90% to 99% percent of normal: Snowmass, Granby Ranch, Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, Buttermilk, Aspen Mountain, Cooper, Powderhorn, Eldora, Copper Mountain and Aspen Highlands.

Closing dates in Colorado:

Eldora, Aspen, Steamboat, Vail, Monarch: April 21st

Loveland: May 12th

Arapahoe Basin, Copper Mountain, Breckenridge & Winter Park, say they will stay open as long as they can.

Purgatory Resort just outside Durango in Colorado bowed out last weekend in traditional fashion.

Last Sunday also saw Echo Mountain, Snow Mass, Silverton and Beaver Creek close.

California is the place for Spring and even Summer skiing.

Palisades Tahoe currently has a 4m depth at the top of the resort and is planning to open until the end of May.

While Mammoth Mountain often continues to offer some skiing and snowboarding into July.

The US resorts with the longest season is Timberline in Oregon.

It opens in the autumn and often remains open until the following August.
