Ski Resorts in South America Open Early as Snow Falls 

Resorts in other parts of the Southern Hemisphere open next month. There remains some skiing on offer in the Northern Hemisphere. UPDATED

Cerro Catedral near Bariloche in Argentina opened a few runs last weekend, with deep snow reported at the top of the resort.

Several areas in Chile have announced they will open this coming weekend.

Corralco in Chile says it will open on Saturday, May 18th.

“We open the Ski Center on Saturday, May 18 – and continuously until the end of the season,” said the resort.

“The following walkways operating from Friday to Sunday: Cornisa, Volcano, Cross, Christmas and Summit; and from Monday to Thursday: Cornisa, Cross and Volcano.”

It was due to fire up its lift on June 15th.

Nevados de Chillan says it will open on Saturday for four days.

Afriski in Lesotho in southern Africa had announced an opening date of June 1st.

The first resorts in Australia & New Zealand are due to open later in June.

In Europe there is still some skiing on offer with the summer glacier season approaching.

Austria has a handful of its glacier resorts currently offering some skiing.

They include Hintertux, Kitzsteinhorn, Molltaler & Stubai.

Les2Alps in France is also open.

In Switzerland Zermatt is offering skiing and the glacier can be accessed from neighbouring Cervinia in Itay.

In Scandinavia Riksgransen in Sweden, inside the Arctic Circle, remains open.

In the USA Winter Park and Arapahoe Basin are open in Colorado.

In California Mammoth Mountain and Palisades Tahoe are open and have just received more fresh snow.
