PlanetSKI Is In Paris
5th January 2025

We’re heading to Arc1950, Tignes, Sainte Foy, La Clusaz, Manigod and Le Grand Bornand for our first turns of 2025.
It’s one of our rather random road trips as we see where our inclination and the snow takes us.
We haven’t stopped off in Paris for many years.
Our inclination was to put that right.
Like catching a first glimpse of the Matterhorn or Mt Blanc, there is a certain structure in Paris that has the same effect as it suddenly appears.
One is seeing something bigger and more important than oneself.

And once the daylight goes:

It is so, so good to be back in Paris.
Many more UK skiers and snowboarders have been driving to the Alps in recent years.
Others are taking the train, via Paris.
Most go directly as the journey can be done in a day by road or rail, but this time we have decided to visit one of the great capitals of Europe.
We are going to let the images do the talking.
Here’s Day Two:
We’re hitting some museums – but perhaps not the obvious ones:
- Hotel de la Marine
- The Army Museum + Napoleon’s Tomb
- The Rodin Museum, House and Gardens
If you want a bit of old fashioned opulence and splendor look no further than the museum of the Hotel de la Marine.
The Hotel de la Marine was originally the home of the royal Garde-Meuble, the office managing the furnishing of all royal properties.
The building was entirely renovated between 2015 and 2021, for it to now display the restored 18th century apartments of Marc-Antoine Thierry de Ville-d’Avray, the King’s Intendant of the Garde-Meuble, as well as salons and chambers.
The entrance staircase:

And a final artistic experience of the day was the Orlinski gallery.

The last work of Richard Orlinski we saw was in Verbier, just before Xmas.

Then there was the shopping.

And lets not forget perhaps the most important aspect of Paris – its food and drink.

It is though very much a work in progress, and all the more interesting for it.
