GB’s Mia Brookes Wins Crystal Globe Again

Mia Brookes has won the 2024/25 Freestyle Snowboard Big Air Crystal Globe. She repeats the feat she achieved last season.

In a repeat of last year’s top-3, Mia Brookes topped the overall standings ahead of Japanese riders Mari Fukada in second and Reira Iwabuchi in third.

With Brookes and Fukada both earning 305 points over the season, it was the Brit’s two World Cup victories in Beijing and Klagenfurt which gave her the edge over Fukada.

Her sole victory of the season came in Chur in October.

18-year old Mia Brookes becomes the first back-to-back winner of the Women’s Big Air Crystal Globe title since Reira Iwabuchi’s consecutive titles in 2018/19 and 2019/20.

Mia’s victory was confirmed at the Aspen Big Air World Cup, where she and the coaching team made a late decision to withdraw from the contest in order to provide additional rest time ahead of an intense schedule building up to the World Championships in March.

At the Championships she will attempt to defend the Slopestyle World Championship title she won as a 16-year-old in 2023.

“I thought maybe I’d finish second this season if I was lucky, but definitely not a win,” said Mia.

“It’s really special when you’ve worked so hard over the season.”

Retaining the Crystal Globe in such a competitive era of women’s snowboarding is testament to Mia’s hard work,” said GB Snowsport Freestyle Snowboard Head Coach, Ben Kinnear.

Mia’s pre-season trick learning, meant she could put those tricks into competition so consistently in some of the most progressive snowboard events to date, winning back-to-back Big Airs in Beijing & Klagenfurt.“

Brookes started snowboarding at 18-months old and she made her debut at World Cup level in October 2022.

She is already a BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year:
