The Mighty Coe is Back

The end of season celebration of snowsport and winter in the mountains, The Mighty Coe, is back at the Scottish ski resort of Glencoe later this month. And it’s promising the biggest programme yet.

The Mighty Coe Winter Sessions take place at Glencoe Mountain Resort and Fort William on Saturday 29th March.

The programme is supported by The North Face and, for the first time, includes activity for winter mountaineers and walkers, as well as skiers, snowboarders and backcountry snowsports enthusiasts.

The daytime line-up this year includes guided backcountry tours, steep and off-piste skiing skills, avalanche skills and introductory sessions for winter mountaineering and walking.

All are hosted at Glencoe Mountain Resort.

The evening session will bring the Mighty Coe Snow Film Night back to Fort William.

“Hosted in the beautiful Highland Cinema in Fort William, this will be the premier snow film night in Scotland this season and also one of the best value nights-out of the year  – with give-aways, free beers and pizza all at a restricted ticket price,” the organisers say.

Headline films include two of the most stunning snowsport freeride films of recent times with the legendary De Le Rue family’s Of A Lifetime and Markus Eder’s Alaskan ski epic Circle of Madness

Of A Lifetime celebrates discovery, adventure, and the passing of the torch to the next generation against the breathtaking backdrop of Antarctica. It chronicles the De Le Rues’ journey sailing across the Drake Passage to ride the steep lines of the white continent.

Circle Of Madness features Markus Eder and Victor de Le Rue returning to the legendary spine walls of Haines, Alaska, the place where extreme freeriding movies were born.

There’s also an opportunity for Scottish winter mountain video creators to win this year’s ‘Reel Life’ short film competitions.

In addition to the ski and snowboard film contest, there is a new Scottish winter mountaineering film competition category.

The Winter Sessions will also provide access to vital skills and safety knowledge for the mountain environment.

“The Winter Sessions are all about celebrating the joy of activity in Glen Coe and the Scottish winter mountains, but there are valuable educational and safety aspects to this project too,” says Neil Dalgleish from The Mighty Coe organisers, Hillside Outside Ltd.

“Working with The North Face and their athletes, we can provide unbelievably good value access to crucial skills and safety education – as well as a fantastic night out afterwards.

“It’s going to be a brilliant way to celebrate the winter season  – all at price points which allow the widest participation possible.”
