New Zealand Ski Resort Set to Open Early After Heavy Snow

Mt Hutt is planning to open on Saturday May 31st, its earliest opening for 16 years. More snow has fallen with snow coming down in South America too. UPDATED
The opening will also include June 1st and June 2nd if conditions allow.
Mt. Hutt will then be open on June 7th and June 8th before beginning operations seven days a week on Saturday, June 14th.

Three News was taken up for an exclusive look at the recent snow earlier in May and senior reporter, Juliet Speedy, even got a run in.
Resorts in Australia are set to open in early June.
Snowmaking systems are firing up in the Australian resorts as the overnight temperatures drop below freezing.
It has dropped to as low as -10 °C and that has helped the snowmaking systems to build base depths even without any heavy natural snow.
In South America there has already been heavy snowfalls with more in the forecast.
Las Lenas in Argentina and Portillo in Chile have seen major new snowfalls a month before opening.
