Other resorts in New Zealand are looking to open shortly.
Many of the resorts in Australia opened last weekend as we reported at the time.
There were great conditions, and more snow fell this week so resorts are now able to open more terrain.
Perisher has seen 65cm fall already and this has allowed allowed the resort to open some of the major lifts earlier than expected.
- The Perisher Quad Express
- The Leichhardt Quad Chair,
- Smiggin Holes and Calf T-Bar at Guthega.
Three of the four areas at Perisher are now open.
“This storm has kicked the season into high gear, and we’re just getting started,” Perisher said in a statement.
“Our team is working around the clock, and we’ll continue to open more terrain as soon as it’s safe to do so.”
At Falls Creek Drovers Dream and Eagle Express chairlifts opened on Friday.
On Saturday the Gully chairlift started turning, allowing full access to the Village Bowl.
More lifts are also opening at Mt Hotham.
Over in South America Vallee Nevado is the first ski area to open in Chile.
It opened on Friday 13th, a week earlier than planned.
“We’re excited to launch another winter season ahead of schedule,” said the General Manager of Valle Nevado, Ricardo Margulis.
”With significant early snowfall and a wide range of capital improvements, Valle Nevado is ready to welcome visitors to experience the best snow in the Southern Hemisphere.”
Others, including Portillo, report good snow as final preparations are made.
