2030 Winter Olympics Aims to Make the Alps More Accessible

The French government has laid out its ambitions for the Winter Games and highlighted responsible investment, mobility and social & environmental legacy projects.
There will be a major upgrades in rail and road access, which will help travel for Olympic delegations and for millions of residents that live in the region.
The government hopes the Winter Games will transform and modernise the Alpine region in the long term.
“We need to have a vision of how our mountains will function in 2050. And use them as an accelerator for the Olympic Games,” said the president of the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur region, Renaud Muselier.
According to figures released by the government and reported by AFP newsagency, €342m will be allocated to the railways, funded by both the state and the PACA region.
The plan’s flagship project will be the modernisation of the Marseille–Briançon railway line, for which €178m will be invested.
It aims to reduce the journey time from 4 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours 40 minutes over the mountainous 260km route.

The 2030 Games will also aim to launch initiatives to promote health and well-being from the grassroots to elite programmes.
Its goals include:
- 3 million additional sports practitioners by 2030,
- Strengthening sports-study programmes
- Creating a Sports Careers Campus
- Research program on sport and artificial intelligence
“Our teams are being structured, our roadmap is being refined, our ambition is intact: to make the Games a lever of useful, lasting legacy, faithful to the values of Olympism,” said the chairman of the French Alps 2030 organising committee, Edgar Grospiron.
