Tamarack in Idaho has closed many of its summer operations and turned on its snow guns as Rock Fire approaches. The evacuation warning has been raised. UPDATED
The fire is 1.5 miles south of the resort and has spread to more than 2,000 acres.
Last week several long-range spot fires started on the ski runs of Tamarack Resort, but fire crews were able to suppress them.
The resort is running its snow making system to spray water and help reduce the risk of the fire spreading.
The decision to close some summer operations is a precautionary move.
“This decision was made out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our guests, employees, and the dedicated crews working to protect our community,” Tamarack stated on its website.
“We extend our gratitude to these teams and will resume resort operations as soon as it is safe to do so.”
On Tuesday 19th August the Valley County Sheriff’s Office has elevated the evacuation warning status for residents in the area.
The Sheriff’s Office has changed the evacuation warning from “Ready” to “Set” as the weahter becomes hotter and rier.
A “Set” warning indicates that there is significant danger in the area, and residents should be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice.
The Valley County Sheriff’s Office advised residents to stay tuned to their TV, local radio stations, or social media for updates.
Tamarack ski resort completely suspended operations last week because of the fire, but has since reopened some summer activities, including dining, the golf course, and lodging.

The chairlifts are still closed, as are the Mid Mountain Lodge, ziplining, and the Marina.
According to a message posted on Tamarack Resort’s website, fire crews are actively working across the mountain.
The ski resort asked guests to observe all fire-related closures.
Fire crews, aircraft, engines and bulldozers have been deployed with a “full suppression” strategy, the Forest Service said.
There are three Hotshot crews, over 30 people on hand crews, 11 engines and two bulldozers.

The resort is off the beaten track for most international visitors, but PlanetSKI’s James Cove visited a few years back on a ski road trip where he visited the lesser-known resorts in Idaho:

The forest fire is suspected to have been caused by a thunderstorm that moved through the area on last Tuesday evening.
