Molltaler Glacier says it has stored 300,000 cubic meters of snow from last winter for the upcoming 2025–26 season.
“We managed to store approximately 300,000 m³ of snow, which is a record-breaking amount,” said the General Manager of the Mölltaler Gletscher, Petr Nikl.
“Compared to the previous season, the depot is 100,000 m³ larger, and compared to the 2023-24 season, we’ve stored six times more snow.”
Snow farming involved collecting at the end of one winter, storing it under coverage and then bringing it out the following winter.
With the right insulation materials about 75-80% of the snow can be conserved.
The ski area on the Molltal glacier in Carinthia is set to open on October 10th.
