The PlanetSKI Snow Report

The temperatures have risen in the Alps after a small amount of fresh snow. The first falls have occurred in the Pyrenees with some snow in North America as more areas open. UPDATED

The Alps

It has been dry over the week across the Alps with the freezing levels rising.

“No fresh snow is expected in the Alps this week, indeed with a strengthening southerly airflow it will become very warm again, especially on the north side of the Alps where the Foehn will make itself known mid-week,” said the alpine weather expert, Fraser Wilkin from weathertoski.co.uk.

“Temperatures will peak on Thursday, after which the weather in the Alps will start to cool down again with the chance of a little snow in places this weekend.”

Early next week it will turn much colder with the prospect of snow down to 1,000m in places.

There are 18 ski areas currently open in the Alps mostly, but not exclusively, on glaciated terrain and some are only open at weekends.

Ski areas currently open in the Alps:

  • Austria: Pitztal, Hintertux, Stubai, Soelden, Kaunertal, Kitzsteinhorn, Molltal & Kitzbuhel.
  • Italy: Passo Stelvio, Cervinia, Sulden & Val Senalis.
  • Switzerland: Verbier, Zermatt, Saas-Fee, Murren, Titlis Glacier (Engleberg) & Diavolezza Glacier (St Moritz).

“It is great to see the first dump of snow across the Alps,” said Sean O’Leary from the UK ski company, allChalets.

“The mountains are alive and busy preparing to welcome the 2025-26 ski holiday guests.

“Skiers and boarders are busy booking their next mountain holiday while chalet teams are putting the final touches to menus and guest services.

“The early snow augers well for excellent skiing conditions this year.”

The Pyrenees

There has been some snow in France, Andorra and Spain.

The image below comes from one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites, taken on 9th November 2025.

It shows fresh snowfall above 1,900m, while lower elevations remain in shades of green and brown.

Up to 20cm fell this week in the French Pyrenees above 2,000m.

The ski resort of Baqueira Beret in Spain has also seen snow.

As have some of the other Spanish ski areas:

Resorts in Andorra have also received some snow in the latest storm.

“The first decent snowfall of the winter in Andorra has brought a real sense of excitement for those of us involved in skiing in Andorra as well as the locals,” said Duncan Gilroy from the Andorra travel specialist, Absolutely Snow.

“It’s the perfect start to what promises to be an exceptional winter in Andorra.”

There were further falls in the Pyrenees over the weekend, but the temperature is set to rise next week so much of it will melt.

Scandinavia

Scandinavian ski regions are seeing a wintry mix of weather with more snow in the forecast.

In Finland, Levi and Ruka are open.

Kabdalis in Sweden is offering some skiing,  as is the Norwegian summer ski area of Galdhopiggen

North America

Lake Louise, Mt Norquay and Sunshine Village in Alberta Canada are open.

At the end of October resorts in Colorado, USA opened.

Last weekend on Saturday 8th November, Loveland in Colorado opened.

Breckenridge also opened last weekend.

This weekend sees Mammoth Mountain in California start its season.

It was planning to open on Friday 14th November but has delayed it due to an in-coming snowstorm.

“This gives Mother Nature and our ops team the time they need to get the mountain dialed in for some amazing first turns,” said the resort.

The first 100 people in the lift queue will get a free beanie.

There’s complimentary hot chocolate and coffee are on tap, too, with a DJ providing tunes on the Tusk Sundeck.
