GB Slalom Skiers Back in Action

Team GB was in Gurgl in Austria on Saturday after the best start to a season last weekend in Levi, Finland, with two British racers in the Top Ten. How did they get on?
In the end it wasn’t quite like last weekend but Billy Major was in the Top Twenty in Gurgl in 17th place, while Dave Ryding came 25th.
Laurie Taylor did not qualify for the second run.
Dave was disappointed with his final World Cup slalom race in the resort he calls his alpine home.
The bib draw took place on Friday night.
Dave Ryding – Bib 12
Laurie Taylor – Bib 29
Billy Morgan – Bib 32
After the first run Dave was 22nd, Billy was 27th and Laurie was 33rd.
The race was won by Paco Rassat from France.
Armand Marchant from Belgium was second, while the Norwegian Atle Lie McGrath took third spot.

It was the first World Cup ski race of the season in the Alps and followed a 4th place from Laurie Taylor and a 7th from Dave Ryding last weekend in Levi, Finland.
Billy Major came 27th ensuring GB had three racers in the Top 30.
Laurie posted his best ever World Cup result.
His previous best World Cup finish was 8th in Aspen, USA, in March 2024.
“What a day,” said GB men’s slalom coach, Jai Geyer after the result in Levi.
“That’s the best start to the season we’ve had as a team, with something we’ve never done before here – two in the top seven – so we’re all pumped, great for the team.
“What a solid start.”
It wasn’t such a good day in Gurgl for Team GB, but the boys were there competing with the best in the world in what is an exciting time for GB slalom racing.
Following results in Gurgl, GB now has three skiers ranked in the top-30 of the World Cup Slalom start list.
The next World Cup slalom race is in Val d’Isere France on 14th December.
