Investigation After Two More Avalanche Deaths in the Alps

The latest accident happened at Val Ridanna in the Sud Tirol, Italy. Five others were injured. UPDATED

The incident happened at mid-day on Saturday 21st March as 25 skiers were descending the slope.

Dozens of rescuers were part of the search operation and used avalanche probes to locate victims.

All were wearing transceivers.

Corpo Nazionale Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico , CNSAS, said that the skiers had been descending Val Ridanna, an 18-kilometer, high-alpine valley in the Bolzano province of Italy, at an altitude of about 2,400m.

Three of the injured are in a serious condition in hospital.

It brings the season’s avalanche death toll in Europe to 129.

The annual average is around 100.
