Investigation After Bird Strike Shuts All Les2Alpes Lifts

Hundreds of skiers were stranded as the whole lift system stopped as a bird flew into a power cable. The resulting power cut hit the entire town and surrounding villages. PlanetSKI was on the lifts at the time. UPDATED

The incident happened on Tuesday morning at 9.30am.

Emergency generators were started to take people already on the lifts to the top.

All were evacuated safely.

PlanetSKI reporter Mike Richards was amoung those on the lift system at the time.

A bird hit a power line and caused a short circuit.

This failure led to an extensive outage.

It also impacted the villages of Villard-Notre-Dame, Le Freney-d’Oisans, Villard-Reymond and part of Bourg-d’Oisans.

Power was restored gradually through the day and the situation is now back to normal.

An investigation is underway.
