Ski Coach Driver Under Investigation After Fatal Accident

A 12-year-old girl died in Val Thorens after a coach slid down a slope as the driver left the vehicle to fix a mechanical problem.

The accident happened in the early hours of  Saturday 28th March as a group of Israeli skiers boarded a bus to take them to Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport.

We reported on it at the time on PlanetSKI:

“While the passengers had taken a seat in the vehicle, the driver was unable to start,” said the public prosecutor of Albertville.

“He then got out of the bus to operate a circuit breaker at the battery level.

“With this action, the bus began to retreat, hit a wall and overturned.”

The collision with the wall ejected the teenager out of the vehicle as the doors remained open.

“She found herself stuck under the bus and the emergency services pronounced her dead,” added the prosecutor.

The driver was taken into custody.

“His driver’s license is in good standing and alcohol and drug tests turned out to be negative,” said the prosecutor.

The bus driver was presented to an investigating judge on Sunday, March 29th as part of the opening of judicial information for “manslaughter by the driver of a motorised land vehicle”.

He was placed under the status of assisted witness.

The investigation continues.
