British Schoolchildren Among Many Hit by Bug in La Plagne

At least 197 children staying at the UCPA residence in Plagne 1800 have fallen ill with gastroenteritis.
Some are British others are from Canada, France and Belgium.
Five teachers have been taken ill.
There are 409 children and 30 accompanying adults staying at the hotel over the busy Easter holiday week.
Many are being treated in the hotel, with some placed on IV drips.
Others are reported to be being treated at a local sports centre.
Symptoms include vomiting and diarrhoea.
The local mayor, Jean-Luc Boch, said the incident appeared to be a “severe case of gastroenteritis spreading amoung the children”.
The Regional Health Authority has been called in to assist and investigate.
