US Resort Closed Next Season After Wildfire

Eagle Point Resort in Utah was partially destroyed by fire in June and then hit by flash flooding in July. The resort has announced it will not open for the 2026/27 season. NEW
The Cottonwood Fire burnt around 300 acres of the ski area and damaged three of the four chairlifts.
It destroyed the Canyonside Lodge and the Tushar Ridge Warming Station that are two of the resort’s main structures.
145 homes and condominiums within the Eagle Point residential have been completely destroyed.
The flash flooding swept away the main access road.

Repairs, restoration work, and operational preparations necessary to open for the upcoming winter season are unable to be completed by winter.
“This is not the news we wanted to share, and we know it will be disappointing for our guests, homeowners, passholders, and the entire Beaver County community,” said the owner of Eagle Point Resort, Shane Gadbaw.
“Our first responsibility is the safety of our guests and employees.
“The damage to our lifts is significant, and the full extent of that damage is still being evaluated.
We are scheduling rope inspections, non-destructive testing, and manufacturer inspections, and we believe it is likely that portions of our lift infrastructure, including several haul ropes, will require replacement.
Those components can take months to manufacture and deliver, making it impossible for us to responsibly plan for winter operations this season.”
Eagle Point officials stressed that recovery and planning efforts are actively underway.
It states that it will rise from the ashes.
“Our commitment to Eagle Point has not changed,” added Gadbaw.
“While we are heartbroken to miss the 2026-27 season, our focus remains on supporting the families who were impacted, advancing recovery efforts, restoring the health of our mountain, and working with local, state, and federal partners to determine the path forward.
“The road ahead won’t be easy, but we remain committed to the future of this community and this mountain.”

While many questions remain regarding long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts, Eagle Point officials emphasized that the decision not to operate this winter allows resources and attention to remain focused on recovery, assessment, restoration, and planning.
