GB Snowsport Defends Itself Against Accusations of Poor Governance

UK Sport withdrew the funding it directed through GB Snowpsort for elite athletes. It had lost confidence in GB Snowsport and chose to fund the athletes directly. NEW
GB Snowsport has commissioned several independent reviews and claims they return positive assurances about governance following the move of UK Sport.
“In addition to recent independent assurance of our strong financial governance, GB Snowsport is pleased to have received positive independent and internal broader governance assurance reviews including an Independent Board Governance Report, a positive NSPCC Annual Safeguarding Review, a positive Culture Health Check, and recognition of our compliance with the Code for Sport Governance,” said GB Snowsport in a statement.
It claims this body of financial and broader governance assurance evidence is consistent with a picture of strong governance.
“UK Sport’s assessment that GB Snowsport is not fit and proper to receive public funding for the French Alps 2030 Cycle on the basis of its governance is at odds with the clear and consistent conclusions evidenced by those independent assurance reviews,” it added.
GB Snowsport is pursuing its rights under UK Sport’s published Representations and Appeals Process in relation to the French Alps 2030 Cycle investment decision.
GB Snowsport says it will continue to engage constructively with UK Sport while remaining focused on supporting the interests and the continued success of British ski and snowboard athletes.

UK Sport says it will find a new way to deliver £12.5m of funding to athletes and coaches before the 2030 Winter Olympics and Paralympics that will be held in France.

It came six months after Team GB had a successful Winter Olympics at the Milan-Cortina Games in Italy.
The team won five medals, with the first Olympic gold medal on snow from Charlotte Bankes and Huw Nightingale.
