Reaction and Reflection as Ski Sunday Ends
3rd September 2026
PlanetSKI hears directly from Chemmy Alcott as skiers, snowboarders & the UK snowsports industry in general has reacted with sadness and anger as the programme is axed by the BBC after almost 50 years. UPDATED
Many are saddened that the iconic programme will not be broadcast again.
PlanetSKI was at an event in London hosted by the Austrian National Tourist Office on Thursday evening and the former co-presenter of the programme, Chemmy Alcott, gave her reaction to the news.
She said she was told of the axing of the programme 4 hours before the news was officially released.
She pledged to help bring a snowsports programme back on terrestrial television that was free-to-view.

Worthy aims from Chemmy, but the detail and costs will be somewhat more complex.
It had been widely rumoured and reported that the programme was about to be axed.

The snowsport youth charity, Snow Camp, that was featured on several editions of the programme has reacted.
“We are incredibly sad to hear the news that BBC Ski Sunday won’t be returning to our screens this winter,” said Snow Camp.
“At Snow Camp, Ski Sunday has been a huge part of our journey.
“It was a massive moment for our charity when we were given our first feature back in 2017, and the showcasing of our work and the focus on the amazing young people we support helped put Snow Camp on the map for new audiences.
“As the charity grew, Ski Sunday continued to support our work.
“We had another feature in 2020 and a final one in 2024, each highlighting different aspects of Snow Camp’s work and helping us reach new supporters.
“We’re incredibly grateful for every feature on the show. Looking back, each helped us take another step forward, and raised awareness of the impact our work with thousands of young people across the country.”
We have posted the three videos about Snow Camp on Ski Sunday at the end of this post.

UK ski operators are saddened too.
“It may end silently, but the music and dream lives on in the hearts of all those it touched,” said Dan Fox from Ski Weekends.
“Ski Sunday inspired a million brits to try something extraordinary and generations have reaped the rewards of a deep heartfelt passion that never dies.
“Tens of thousands of kids have taken the seasonnaires right of passage and have led richer lives for it.
“It’s not just about a legacy, the ski industry and all those dreamers need Ski Sunday and the tune that starts every skiers pulse racing.
Ski Solutions has also reacted:
“The end of an era, We are heartbroken to hear that Ski Sunday has been cancelled,” said Ski Solutions.
“For so many of us, it was more than a TV programme.
“It was the soundtrack to winter, the spark that got us excited for ski trips, and a reminder of why we love the mountains so much.
“Weekends will never be the same…
“If you’re listening BBC we will be first on the list to petition for you to bring it back.:
While Maison Sport takes a more realistic and positive view:
“It is sad to see skiing leave the mainstream TV agenda – a show I grew up watching – but it is clear people are consuming ski content away from traditional channels and the sport should embrace this rather than focus on the loss of an iconic show,” said the Maison Sport c0-founder, Nick Robinson.
“People are increasingly able to discover skiing techniques and news online, learn new skills and find inspiration.
“The ski customer journey is changing and that is being reflected by the change in media consumption and ultimately TV programming – it doesn’t show a decline for the love of skiing.”
