Winter News From Austria for the Coming Season

There are new lifts, new hotels and new attractions. Several glacier ski areas have already opened and with resorts preparing for the approaching season. NEW

Soelden and Stubai opened on Friday, joining the already open areas of Hintertux and Pitztal.

Kitzsteinhorn opened  on Saturday.

On the Slopes

New lifts incluse the Höllkar C2 chairlift in Ischgl and the Kapellenbahn chairlift on the Schmittenhöhe in SalzburgerLand.

They will takes skiers and snowboarders up the mountain with greater comfort, shorter journey times and protection from the weather.

Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis has a new play area and family run as well as an additional fun slope,

Nauders will appeal to powder enthusiasts in particular from this winter with no less than six new freeride routes.

In Carinthia, winter hiking is getting a boost thanks to electric exoskeletons designed to support movement and reduce physical strain.

Events in Austria

Winter 2026/27 is jam-packed: THE NIGHTRACE Schladming will be taking place for the 30th time and the Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck for the 75th year in January 2027.

For Christmas fans, the Salzburg Advent Singing is celebrating 80 years, the nearby Hellbrunn Adventzauber market turns 25 and Graz’ Ice Nativity Scene 20.

Other events worth noting include the first FIS Women’s Alpine Ski World Cup in Gosau in December.

There’s the Winter Deaflympics with around 1,400 deaf athletes in Innsbruck and Seefeld in January.

Plus, the FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships in Montafon and Kühtai in March 2027.
