A 29-year-old Swiss off piste skier has been was killed, after being swept away by an avalanche while descending a high alpine couloir near the Lagginhorn in the Simplon region of the Swiss Alps.

He was with a companion who survived and called the emergency services.

The public prosecutor’s office in the Valais canton has opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the avalanche.
