The retreating ice has revealed recent remains of missing climbers & skiers.
There have also been planes, historical artefacts dating back to pre-historic times and much more besides.
A new study, glacial archaeology – the study of ancient finds from melting glaciers – is developing.
“There’ve always been individual cases of bodies or objects emerging from the ice,” said Thomas Reitmaier, director of the archaeological service of the Canton of Grisons in Switzerland.
“Glaciers swallow people and things, and at some point, spit them out again.”
