Excitement Grows for National Snow Show

Ticket sales have passed the 11,000 mark with the easing of covid rules in the UK and lifting of travel restrictions for vaccinated people coming from abroad helping. PlanetSKI has met the organiser and looks ahead to the autumn event.

The National Snow Show is the only major snowsport show taking place in the UK this Autumn, with the 2-day event scheduled for 23rd and 24th October at the NEC in Birmingham.

More than 3,000 tickets have been snapped up in August alone as interest mounts with the date getting closer.

New exhibitors at the show include the Aosta Valley,  Ford, Laax and Nordica.

They join exhibitors including Crystal Ski Holidays, Decathlon, Salomon, Ski Exchange, MPI Brokers, Ski Andorra and the Ski Instructor Academy.

Others include Ski Club GB, Eurosport, Graystone Action Sports, Snowsport England, Snowsport Scotland, GB Snowsport, DSUK Snow-Camp and Protect Our Winters (POW).

The organisers claim the show is ideally positioned ahead of the winter season and will provide a one-stop-shop for seasoned snowsports lovers, people new to the sports, families, solo travellers and groups.

The Show will also have a dry slope as we reported earlier:

“The show is going from strength to strength. As the UK’s only snow show we are ideally positioned to give brands the opportunity to talk face-to-face with consumers at a time when that has never been more important,” said Stephen Morgan, MD at Raccoon Events Active, who is running the National Snow Show.

“The aim of the show is to unite the UK snowsport scene by bringing together retail, destinations and the community to inspire participation.”

The PlanetSKI editor, James Cove, met up with Stephen for a cycle around Richmond Park in South-West London to hear more about the show.

“Why Richmond Park?” we hear you ask.

They both live nearby and are keen cyclists in the park.

“I genuinely believe people are gagging to get back on snow and to meet up with fellow snow addicts and just talk skiing and snowboarding.

“It has been a relief to see Covid-19 restrictions easing to say the least, and the news that people can come to the UK from Europe and the USA without quarantine if they have been doubled jabbed has made me sleep easier at night.

“It makes it more attractive for the ski resorts and overseas visitors.

“Starting a new show is stressful and challenging at the best of times, but to do it in the middle of a pandemic with all the uncertainties has definitely added a new dimension.

“My beard used to be jet black and now it’s gone grey!

“I have been bowled over by the support of people within the UK snowsports industry and from  the people planning to come to the show so they can get in the mood for winter and find out about all the changes.

“The event has been threatened over the past year as large-scale events have been off the cards, but it is now actually happening.

“It seems strange to be cycling round Richmond Park talking about skiing, snowboarding and snow on a glorious summer day, but the Show will be upon us before we know it.

“I, for one, can’t wait.”
