The BRITS Heads Back to its Roots in Scotland

The UK’s official Snowboard and Freeski Championships will take place in Cairngorm in Scotland April 1st and 2nd.

Cairngorm Mountain was an early home to The BRITS and 32 years have passed since it was last held in Scotland.

The British Snowboard and Freeski Championships – aka “The Brits” has been the premier snowboard contest since 1990.

It sees amateur athletes and professional athletes taking part, whilst retaining an open-door policy for anyone wishing to give-it-a-go.

Having started in Scotland, the contest has been held in The Alps for over 30 years

“A lot has changed over the past 3 decades; snowboarding is well established, freeskiing has risen in parallel, and as two of the favourite disciplines of the Olympics and we know this is gonna be one hell of a show,” said one of the organisers, Spencer Claridge.

Cairngorm Mountain has always catered for freestyle, creating the first halfpipe back in 1991 – 7 years before snowboarding debuted at the Olympics.

The Highlands has one of the highest density of decorated athletes in freestyle snowsports.

Cairngorm is the UK’s biggest resort.

Over 2 days, hundreds of established and promising athletes will compete in the Ellis Brigham British Freeski Championships and TSA British Snowboard Championships.

They’ll be battling it out in the Olympic discipline of Slopestyle, plus Banked Slalom and Rail Jam titles.

Expected athletes include World Cup athletes Kirsty Muir and Mia Brookes.

Kirsty has been on the podium at the recent X-Games.

They’ll be alongside Olympic veterans Billy Morgan, Jamie Nicholls and Katie Ormerod, plus a whole host of other athletes.

“We are absolutely delighted to be hosting The Brits event this year right here on the slopes at Cairngorm Mountain,” said Cairngorm Mountain Chief Executive, Susan Smith.

“It’s fantastic to be welcoming the event not only back to Scotland but returning to the Cairngorms for the first time in over 30 years.”

Ellis Brigham and TSA have played a central role in the development of the UK winter sports scene and further demonstrate that commitment by renewing its long-standing relationship with the British Championships as title and presenting sponsor.
