British Teenager Dies After Skiing into a Tree in Italy

A 14-year-old British boy has died in an accident while skiing on a family holiday in Cortina.

The boy’s parents were with him on the red slope when he lost control, veered off the marked run and crashed into a tree.
The emergency services were called, but were unable to save his life.
Paramedics to save him for over half an hour using a defibrillator, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
He died form chest injuries.
It is understood he was wearing a helmet.
“I am deeply sorry for this English boy and, both personally and as a municipal administration, we are close to the family affected by this immense tragedy,” said the mayor of Cortina, Gianluca Lorenzi.
The boy has not been named but was a pupil at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital School (QEH) in Bristol.
Parents and pupils have been informed by email of the tragedy.
The QEH head Rupert Heathcote said: “Out of deep respect for the family involved, we are unable to provide any details.
“We appreciate your cooperation in allowing them space to grieve.
“Our community is deeply saddened, and we are concentrating on supporting our pupils and staff.”
An investigation is underway in Italy.
