The US ski superstar has won the 100th World Cup race of her career. She topped the podium in a slalom race in Sestriere, Italy.
It is less than a month after she returned from an injury sustained at Killington in the USA early in the season.
It kept her out of competition for 60 days.
On her comeback she talked of the mental difficulties of returning to racing.
Now she has reached her goal.
No other Alpine skier in history has won 100 World Cup victories.
She became the sport’s all-time leader in March 2023, passing Ingemar Stenmark’s previous mark of 87.
She’s also now level with Stenmark for the most World Cup podiums in alpine skiing history – 155.
“A lot of things had to go right in my direction for this to happen,” Shiffrin said after her historic victory.
“In the end, I did something right too.
“Everybody’s been so nice and so supportive, all of my teammates and competitors and coaches and the whole World Cup.
“And I’m so grateful, thank you.”
A loud cheer rose from the crowd as she made her comments.
“And the fans,” she added.
“Thank you. Thank you so much.”

The figure of 100 World Cup wins in alpine skiing is a figure many thought impossible to reach as the legendary Swedish skier, Ingemar Stenmark, held the record of 87 titles for decades.
Then along came Mikaela Shiffrin.
Earlier this winter PlanetSKI was slopeside in Gurgl in Austria as she won her 99th victory.

“I guess it’s not impossible, but so many things have to go right,” Shiffrin said in Gurgl about reaching 100 wins.
“From the outside it looks easy, or it looks like it’s supposed to happen this way.
“But… it’s certainly not easy.
“Everybody’s pushing and catching up.
“And so, I’m not taking that for granted.”
