Bankes Looks to Winter Olympics After Cruel End to Season

She broke her collarbone in training before the weekend’s final races of the season and it ended her hopes of winning a third snowboard cross World Cup title in four years. NEW
The 29- year old GB snowboarder was injured in training on Friday ruling her out of the weekend’s final two races of the season at Mont Sainte Anne in Canada.
19-year-old Lea Casta of France won the Crystal Globe for the overall World Cup winner after victory in Saturday’s penultimate round that put her clear of Brookes at the top of the standings.
Casta took the title with 805 points, Charlotte Bankes who finished the season second with 622 points.
“Gutted and frustrated to finish the season like this,” Bankes said in an Instagram post.
“But now the focus is on getting the body mended, recovering and coming back stronger next year for a big one [Winter Olympics].
“Thanks for everyone’s support this season.”

Up until the injury it had been an excellent season for Bankes.
Bankes won the Crystal Globe in the 2021–22 and 2022–23 seasons.
