Fundraiser Set up for Briton who Died in Val Thorens Avalanche

27-year old Josh Byers from North Yorkshire died on 17th April as a heavy snowstorm hit the Alps. Family friends have launched a fundraising page for his repatriation and funeral costs.

Josh Byers was caught as he was beside a road in the lower part of the French ski resort.

He was carried 15m down the mountain and buried under the snow.

A witness raised the alarm, and the local police were quickly at the scene and located him abd administered first aid.

He was taken to a hospital in Grenoble where he died later that evening.

We reported on the tragedy as we covered the unprecedented April snowstorm that hit the western Alps:

The fundraiser was set up to help with the financial burden and costs of bringing Josh home and to help the family say goodbye.

It was set up by the headteacher of the school in which Josh’s mother works.

“Over the Easter break, Jenny and Lee Byers received heart breaking news that their son, Josh, had lost his life in an avalanche whilst away in France,” said a statement on the Fundraiser page.

“Anyone who knows the family, knows how close they are and how they would do anything for anyone in need.

“This is our time to help them.

“During the next few weeks and months, there will be costs to bring Josh home and to prepare for saying goodbye.

“We hope this page will allow everyone the chance to donate to reduce the financial burden on the family at such a sad time.”

£14,410 has been raised so far from 404 donations.
