Investigation Into Alleged Price Fixing at Dolomiti Superski

The Italian ski area is under formal investigation by Italy’s Antitrust Authority, AGCM, over claims of lift pass price fixing and restrictions on competition.

The Italian Competition Authority has launched an investigation into Federconsorzio Dolomiti SuperSki  and the twelve local participating Consortia over a suspected violation of section 2 of Law 287/1990 and article 101 of the TFEU.

The Consortia are:

  • Consorzio esercenti impianti a fune Cortina d’Ampezzo
  • S. Vito di Cadore, Auronzo/Misurina
  • Consorzio esercenti impianti a fune Skirama Plan de Corones – Kronplatz
  • Consorzio impianti a fune Alta Badia
  • Consorzio esercenti impianti a fune Val Gardena – Alpe di Siusi
  • Consorzio impianti a fune Val di Fassa e Carezza
  • Consorzio esercenti il trasporto di persone a mezzo impianti a fune Alpe Lusia – San Pellegrino
  • Consorzio impianti a fune Civetta
  • Consorzio impianti a fune Arabba – Marmolada
  • Consorzio 3 Zinnen Dolomites
  • Consorzio impianti a fune Val di Fiemme – Obereggen
  • Consorzio impianti a fune San Martino di Castrozza e Passo Rolle
  • Consorzio Rio Pusteria – Bressanone

An inspection at the premises of Federconsorzio Dolomiti SuperSki and the twelve local Consortia was carried out earlier in July by the Authority’s officials, assisted by the Special Antitrust Unit of the Italian Financial Police.

According to the AGCM, clauses within the consortium’s statute may have enabled two potentially anti-competitive practices:

  • The centralised definition of ski pass prices across all members
  • Restrictions on the sale of ski passes by third-party vendors.

These alleged practices potentially breach EU competition rules.

The consumer rights organisation, Assoutenti, which brought forward concerns earlier this year, has welcomed the development.

According to Snow Industry News Assoutenti said that the cost of a daily Dolomiti Superski pass rose from €67 in the 2020-21 season to €83 in 2024-25, an increase of nearly 24%.

Season pass rates also climbed from €870 to €945, an 8.6% increase over the same period.

“With energy prices now stable and inflation at around 1%, these increases appear completely unjustified,” said the President of Assoutenti, Gabriele Melluso.

“They place an unfair burden on families and tourists, and we are prepared to pursue legal remedies if violations are confirmed.”

Dolomiti Superski has issued a statement affirming its full cooperation with the authorities and expressing “maximum transparency and responsibility.”
