The former German biathlon champion, Laua Dahlmeir, perished while climbing the Laila Peak in Karakoram mountains. She was a highly experienced mountaineer.
The 31-year old was pronounced dead two days after a rockfall accident on the 6,069m mountain.
She was at 5,700m when the slide hit and swept her down the mountain.
Her climbing partner alerted the rescue services and was assisted to base camp with rescuers.
The rescuers were unable to reach Dahlmeir due to adverse conditions.
Two days later two teams of four international climbers as well as two local high-altitude guides set out on the rescue mission.
They found her body and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
She was a double Winter Olympic champion and seven-time world champion.
At the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics she was the first female biathlete to win the sprint and pursuit events as the same Games.
She was named German Athlete of the Year in 2017 and retired in 2019 at the age of 25.
She went on to become a climbing and ski instructor in her hometown of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the Bavarian Alps.
