Vonn Hires Svindal as Coach Ahead of 2026 Winter Olympics

The US skier Lindsey Vonn has confirmed that the Norwegian legend Aksel Lund Svindal will join her team as coach for the upcoming Milan-Cortina Olympic season.
The pair have a total of 118 World Cup victories and 218 podiums between them.
“I’ve known Aksel for over 20 years,” said Vonn.
“We trained together in Chile and Colorado, and even retired at the same race.
“Having him by my side now — not just as a friend, but as a coach — is something truly special.”

“When one of the greatest to ever do the sport calls you up and wants your help, you’re honoured and flattered,” said Svindal.
“I was a little surprised that I said yes to her offer, but I do miss the sport, and I really do think I can make a difference.
“There is a good chance of her coming to the Olympics as one of the favorites.”
Vonn retired in 2019, the same year as Svindal, and then made a comeback last season.
Vonn is one of the most successful female alpine skiers in history with 82 World Cup victories, 138 podiums, four Overall titles, and 16 discipline globes.
She has three Olympic medals, including downhill gold at Vancouver 2010 .
She has eight World Championship medals, including two golds.
Svindal is one of Norway’s most decorated athletes with 36 World Cup victories, 80 podiums, twooOverall titles and nine crystal globes.
His Olympic record includes four medals (two gold), and nine World Championship medals – five of them gold.
The 2024/25 alpine season starts on 25th–26th October in Soelden, Austria, with a GS race.
The first women’s speed events, Downhill and Super-G, are scheduled for 10th–14th December in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
The alpine skiing events at the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics will take place from 7th to 18th February.
