Massive Snowfalls in Parts of South America

There has been over 1m of fresh snow in the past 24-hours in Chile with more in the forecast. In Argentina some resort says they will be able to stay open into October though overall depths remain poor.

Valle Nevado says the conditions are the best of the season with significant snow falling over the next ten days.

Many resorts in Chile have seen at least 50cm after a below average snowfall for most areas.

Portillo has reported 95cm over the past 72 hours.

In Argentina Caviahue has re-opened after closing due to a lack of snow.

Cerro Castor and Cerro Catedral say they’ll now be staying open into October though it follows a poor season with many runs still closed despite the fresh snow.
