Heavy Snow Finally Falls in New Zealand

Mt Hutt has 1.6m at the top of the resort.

Treble Cone has 76cm and Cardrona 66cm.

Conditions are said the be good at The Remarkables and Coronet Peak.

Temple Basin Ski Area said last month that it would be unlikely to open this winter as reported at the time on PlanetSKI.

“If the snow gods do grace us with a mega storm in the coming month, it is possible we will look to spin tows and run a pop-up weekend, dependent on volunteer and staff availability,” said the resort at the time.

The lifts started spinning last weekend after a 40cm snowfall, with 50 or so skiers and snowboarders turning out.

Temple Basin is hoping to be able to offer skiing over the coming weekends of September.

On the North Island, there has been snow at the resort of Whakappa on Mt Ruapehu.
