French Ski Resort of Lac Blanc to Close

Climate change is to blame & the resort says it will concentrate on summer activities. NEW

The ski area is situated in the Vosges mountains and is the third Vosges resort to end alpine skiing in recent times, following Tanet and Gaschney.

Vosges is a medium-altitude range in northeastern France between the Alsace and Lorraine regions.

The joint association responsible for the area said its decision to halt ski lift operations was unanimous.

The association said that after reviewing the conditions for running the resort from the 2026/2027 season onward, it concluded the requirements for direct operation could no longer be met.

It put the  blame on climate change with less natural snowfall, fewer days with usable snow cover, and increasingly unpredictable winters.

It said that this undermined the area’s alpine skiing based model.

The resort has been diversifying its activities since 2007, when it opened a Bike Park.

The syndicate describes the current move as a “new impetus” meant to secure the site’s long-term future and attractiveness beyond a snow-dependent model.

The ski resort already generates 50% of its revenue during the off-season.

The area opened 56 years ago and sits between 900m and 1,200m.
