Five People Missing with Eight Injured in Fire in Swiss Alpine Town

A restaurant with apartments has been completely destroyed by fire in the Swiss town of Thusis in the alpine canton of Graubunden. NEW
The fire brigade was called just after midnight on Thursday and 100 firefighters were deployed.
First reports say the blaze broke out on the second floor.
Fourteen people escaped from the building.
Two were seriously injured, two suffered moderate injuries with four people treated for minor injuries.
The injured were taken to hospitals in neighbouring Chur, Thusis, Ilanz and Zurich.
Five people remain missing and the search is ongoing.

The region is a popular holiday destination for both winter sports and summer activities.
The Grischun Care Team, consisting of four people, was deployed to provide support for those affected, their families, and the emergency responders.
The municipality of Thusis organised accommodation and meals for those affected.
Also present at the scene were:
- Several members of the Thusis Samaritan Association
- Officers from the Chur city police
- An employee of the Office for Nature and the Environment
- A fisheries inspector
- 16 officers from the Graubünden cantonal police
The cantonal police and the public prosecutor’s office are investigating the cause of the blaze.
