VIP SKI Aims to Boost Skiers’s Confidence

VIP SKI is launching a new Ski Confidence Week in Val d’Isère.

Skiers can still parallel turn, have probably been skiing for years and know perfectly well how to get down a red run.

But suddenly that patch of ice looks nastier, the moguls can wait and following the children down a black seems considerably less appealing than meeting them for lunch.

An injury or bad fall can do it.

So can a few years away from the mountains, pressure to keep up with faster friends or family, or simply getting older and becoming rather more aware of the consequences of getting it wrong.

The ability hasn’t necessarily disappeared.

The nerve has.

British ski operator VIP SKI is tackling this rarely discussed side of skiing with the new Ski Confidence Reset, developed with Kate Casali, The Ski Mindset Coach®, and a dedicated VIP SKI Confidence Week in Val d’Isère in April 2027.

The work starts before guests reach the Alps, with an introductory Zoom session and questionnaire with Casali to pinpoint what might be getting in the way.

Once in Val d’Isère, traditional ski guiding with Oxy Ski School is combined for two mornings with individual mindset coaching, a group session and a practical introduction to Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).

The point isn’t to create fearless skiers or push anyone onto harder pistes.

It is to help people who already know how to ski stop fear, pressure or self-doubt getting in the way of enjoying it.

“Skiers don’t have to lose their ability to lose their confidence,” said Kate Casali, The Ski Mindset Coach®.

“Many know exactly what they should be doing technically, but fear has started overriding what their body knows how to do.

“The challenge isn’t always learning to ski better.

“Sometimes it’s learning to trust the skier they already are.”

Guests stay at VIP SKI’s Bellevarde Lodge in Val d’Isère, will enjoy the company’s chalet hospitality and holiday with the confidence programme running alongside their normal holiday.

VIP SKI already takes care of the practical irritations of a ski holiday, including complimentary Geneva transfers, ski hire, lift passes and ski school.

Now it is tackling something rather harder to arrange away: the little voice at the top of the piste saying, perhaps not.

“If 36% of skiers are saying they’re less confident than they used to be, the industry should be listening,” said the CEO of VIP SKI, Andy Sturt.

“These aren’t necessarily people who can’t ski.

“They’re people who love skiing and want to carry on doing it but aren’t enjoying the mountain quite as they once did.”

For many, losing confidence doesn’t mean falling out of love with skiing.

They still want the mountains, the first run on fresh corduroy, long lunches and those brilliant days when the skis seem to turn themselves.

They’d just quite like their nerve back too.
