Two Britons Killed in Swiss Alps Plane Crash

The light aircraft crashed near the ski resort of Leukerbad shortly after taking off from Sion airport. Three people on board died. NEW

The accident happened on Tuesday and an investigation is underway.

The plane crashed 10 minutes after take-off and witnesses reported seeing a fire at the crash site with thick smoke.

The plane hit a north facing mountainside in the Fluhalp area.

The names of the victims have not been released.

The UK Foreign Office confirmed it was “providing support to the families of two Brtish nationals who died in Switzerland”.

“Our thoughts remain with the families during this difficult time”.

The plane was a Cirrus SR22T.

It was a single-engined and could seat up to five people

No further details have been released.
