The International Olympic Committee has put forward the International Ski & Snowboard Federation.

FIS is in the International Federations category and is being recognised for the development of the FIS CO2 Calculator.

It is a tool designed for National Ski Associations and Local Organizing Committees to measure, manage, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions not only at events, but also during the planning phase.

At the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, for example, the tool guided strategies like using wood-chip heating, with hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) as a backup, reducing heating-related emissions by 96.6%.

The benefit of the FIS CO2 Calculator is that its impacts are tangible, and its use is scalable across all the many disciplines for which FIS is responsible.

“We are extremely proud of this recognition,” said the FIS Sustainability Director, Susanna Sieff.

The IOC Climate Action Awards celebrate impactful initiatives that address climate change across the entire Olympic Movement.

There are the three categories:

  • Athletes
  • National Olympic Committees
  • International Federations

The winners will be announced in the run up to the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
