The International Ski & Snowboard Federation had been forecast to have spent all its cash reserves by 2028 if it continued on the same track.
It has now cut overheads and aims to add new events to bolster its finances.
Jobs have been axed, a FIS office in Munich has been shut and race prize money subsidies have been cut.
There are plans for more snowsport competitions to bring in extra revenue.
“We are in a serious situation, not a desperate one,” said the FIS interim secretary general, Urs Lehmann.
“The FIS family deserved to have clarity where we are.”
Extra world championships are set to be added in the current down year of a four-year Olympic cycle.
Member federations were told at a specially convened FIS Summit in Geneva that “FIS is solvent today but in a critical point.”
