US Ski Resorts Open + More Snow in Canada

The Thanksgiving Holiday weekend in the USA has seen a multitude of ski resorts open for the season. Some have the best early season conditions in years. UPDATED

Dozens of ski areas opened last weekend with skiers and snowboarders flooding in to make the most of the Thanksgiving Day national holiday.

Most opened with excellent conditions.

It is hard to know where to start.

So, why not in one of our favourite resorts in the USA, Jackson Hole in Wyoming.

We previewed Jackson Hole’s opening and what new is for the season in this earlier article on PlanetSKI:

Utah is home to some other US classics and more resorts across the state have opened this weekend.

Resorts currently open include Park City, Deer Valley, Brighton, Solitude, Alta, Snowbird and Snowbasin.

Two of our favouite areas in Utah, Powder Mountain and Sundance, remain closed with openings scheduled for early December.

We’ll keep you posted here on PlanetSKI.

Colorado is home to more fabulous ski areas.

Here is a look at the weather in ski resorts in Colorado broadcast ahead of this weekend.

Resorts now open include Steamboat, Winter Park, Aspen, Breckenridge, Arapahoe Basin, Loveland and Vail.

California too is open for business.

Palisades Tahoe and Mammoth Mountain opened earlier due to the high levels of snow.

Other resorts now open include Heavenly, Kirkwood and Northstar.

Heavy snow continues to fall in Canada.

Mostly it is welcome, but not in Lake Louise in Alberta this weekend.

Heavy snow and reduced visibility has forced organisers to postpone the first men’s downhill of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski World Cup season.

It has now been rescheduled to Saturday, with downhill replacing one of the two planned super-G races at Lake Louise.

Another super-G is scheduled for Sunday at the resort in Banff National Park.

“Sadly our Men’s downhill event has been cancelled today due to current weather patterns,”said  the organisers.

“But racer safety is paramount.

“The good news is we will run the downhill event tomorrow!”

The women’s circuit will begin at Killington with giant slalom and slalom legs on Saturday, November 26th.

In Canada, Whistler in British Columbia and  Sunshine Villlage & Mt Norquay in Alberta are among resorts open.

Here at PlanetSKI we will be updating this article on the snow conditions and resorts opening across the weekend, so do check back.

Maybe this is the winter to head to North America for a ski trip.

Now there’s a thought…
