Double Success for GB Snowsport Athletes

Mia Brookes takes Snowboard Park & Pipe Overall Crystal Globe, and Kirsty Muir takes maiden World Cup victory in Tignes Slopestyle World Cup.

18-year-old Mia Brookes has taken the Overall Snowboard Park & Pipe title after the cancellation of the Finals of the Absolut Park Slopestyle World Cup this morning.

In a sensational season, Brookes has delivered seven World Cup podiums including victories in Beijing, Klagenfurt, and Laax.

She had three top-3 finishes in the Big Air discipline and four in Slopestyle, confirming her strength across both World Cup disciplines.

Brookes’ title was secured with 500 World Cup points, a margin of 35 clear of Japan’s Mari Fukada in second, while New Zealander Zoi Sadowski-Synott claimed third with 436 points.

Kirsty Muir takes maiden World Cup victory in Tignes Slopestyle World Cup

Kirsty Muir sealed her maiden World Cup victory with at the Tignes Slopestyle World Cup on Friday.

Having only returned to action from a serious knee injury in February, the 20-year-old’s performances in Tignes were a stunning showcase of the young Scot’s talent, delivering a richly deserved victory after missing more than a year of competitive action.

Qualifying in first spot, Muir’s opening run of Finals was enough to propel her into top spot, a position she held ahead of Australia’s Abi Harrigan and New Zealand’s Ruby Star Andrews in second and third place respectively.

  “I’m so stoked, just over the moon. I’m super happy to get a clean run down and make it onto the top of the podium – first time!” said Kirsty Muir.

“This just gives me the confidence that I am back, and I’m back stronger than I was which is even better. This is what I wanted, and here I am – first World Cup win, and after my knee, I’m just so stoked.”

“Kirsty has been working hard for over a year now coming back from her knee injury,” said  the GB Snowsport Freeski Head Coach,  Jamie Matthew.

“It’s incredible to see all that hard work pay off with her first World Cup win today.

“We have a great team around her and she’s stuck to her plan and goals every step of the way these past 14 months, so it’s very exciting to have her back where she belongs – at the top of women’s freeskiing.”
