Rob Katz Returns as CEO of Vail Resorts

The 58-year old replaces Kirsten Lynch who has stepped down as CEO and as a director of the Board.

Katz previously served as CEO of the company from 2006 to 2021.

Lynch will remain in an advisory role to the Company for an interim period to facilitate a smooth transition.

Vail Resorts runs resort in North America and has made acquisitions and expanded its Epic Pass lift ticket in Europe and beyond.

The Epic Pass offers skiing at 37 North American mountain resorts including Whistler BlackcombVail MountainBreckenridgePark City MountainStowe and many more.

It also has several ski areas on the pass in Europe including Verbier in Switzerland, Les3Vallees in France, the Arlberg in Austria and Dolomiti Superski in Italy.

“As Vail Resorts continues to execute its strategic priorities and transformational initiatives, the Board believes now is the right time for this leadership transition,” said, Lead Independent Director of the Board, Bruce Sewell.

“Rob has a strong track record of driving innovation and executing consistent performance at Vail Resorts and has played a critical role in the development of Vail Resorts’ operations and long-term strategy for over the past three decades.

“Rob’s 16 years as CEO included reinvigorating the Company during times of industry stagnation and challenging macro environments.

“We look forward to continuing to work closely with him to ensure that Vail Resorts consistently delivers for our employees, guests, communities, and shareholders as the worldwide ski industry leader.”

During Katz’s 15 years as CEO, Vail Resorts completed 33 resort acquisition deals and brought resorts from Europe, Australia and North America under the corporation’s umbrella.

The Vail Resorts stock price rose from $1.13 per share in October 2006 to $326.09 by November 2021.

Since 2021  the company stock has dropped, and on  May 28th 2025 it was  $172.59.

In April 2025 Vail Resorts reported that lift ticket revenue was up 3.4% compared to the 2023/24 season, but annual skier visits were down 3.1%, and rental/retail revenue was also down 4%.

Last season industrial action by ski patrolers in Park City caused disruption to activities.
