Val d’Isere has been confirmed as the recommended host of some of the alpine skiing events at the next Winter Olympics in France. The other venues have been revealed.
The decision was reached during an executive board meeting of the organising committee according to a report in Le Dauphiné Libéré newspaper.
Val d’Isere will host giant slalom and slalom.
This leaves Meribel, that was initially expected to be an Olympic venue, on the sidelines after a political row.
The alpine events will be split between Val d’Isère and Courchevel.
Courchevel will hold the speed events, Downhill and Super-G, plus ski jumping.
The move has been approved by the International Olympic Committee Executive Board at a meeting in Lausanne whi have backed all the proposed venues.
Final approval of the venue masterplan will be given at a later date when further details are confirmed.
Nordic events will be held in the Aravis Mountains in Haute-Savoie (biathlon in Le Grand-Bornand, cross-country skiing in La Clusaz).
Bobsled, luge, and skeleton will be held in La Plagne.
Freestyle skiing and snowboarding will be in Serre-Chevalier and Montgenèvre.
Ice hockey, curling, figure skating, short track will be held in Lyon, instead of Nice.
Long-distance speed skating will take place in Heerenveen in the Netherlands.
This week the IOC meets in Lausanne to consider which winter sports disciplines will be part of the 2030 Games with some looking like getting the axe as new ones are approved.
