The forecast for the Alps this week is interesting but complicated, with weather fronts set to reach the Alps from the west later on Tuesday, spawning a secondary storm over the Mediterranean that has the potential to deliver some significant quantities of snow in places mid-week,” said Fraser Wilkin from weathertoski.co.uk
“At this stage, the heaviest snow is likely to fall in the south-western Alps and close to the main Alpine ridge, again helping the Saas-Fee and Zermatt-Cervinia areas, but with snow falling more widely and to lower levels than last weekend.
“Another set of weather fronts is then set to arrive from the west towards the end of the week.
“All in all, it looks like a positive week of weather in the Alps with fresh snow for all the glaciers, although heaviest again in the west.”
In Finland Levi and Ruka are open using snow stored from last winter.
In Sweden, Klappen has its snowpark open using snow from last season.
In Norway Gladhopiggen Glacier is open but only for race teams.
This weekend the first Alpine Ski World Cup takes place at Soelden in Austria.
