‘Sunday in The Mountains’ Stakes Claim to Replace Ski Sunday
22nd October 2026
A new weekly winter sports show aims to replace Ski Sunday. It will have snow competitions, alpine destination reviews and mountain adventures. It will be on YouTube, TV, streaming and social media from January 2027. Plus it has bought the rights to THAT theme tune. NEW
The founder behind the Extreme Sports Channel has a new vision for winter sports broadcasting: Sunday in the Mountains.
Created by Wavelength and Extreme International, the new multi-platform show will combine ski racing and freestyle competitions with the adventure, culture and characters.
It is set to launch in January 2027.
It follows the demise of BBC’s Ski Sunday:
The series aims to bring the mountains to a new generation of fans, combining the excitement of race-day Sundays with a fresh, social first approach to sports entertainment.
No presenter has been announced but the Ski Sunday co-presenter, Chemmy Alcott, was in discussions but has now pulled out of the project.
It is understood she is launching her own video podcast that will come direct from the Alps with details to be announced shortly.
Every week in the lead-up to each full episode of Sunday in the Mountains, daily short-form content will bring audiences closer to the action through:
- Athlete interviews
- Behind-the-scenes footage
- Creator-led content
- Stories from the mountains
They will be posted across Wavelength’s network of social channels and partner publishers.
Wavelength claims a combined following of more than 80m people across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and Snapchat.
The social content will build towards a weekly 45-minute episode, streaming on YouTube every Sunday, alongside a UK television broadcast, with the network to be announced shortly.
Wavelength has secured the rights to the iconic Ski Sunday theme tune, Pop Looks Bach.
The first season is provisionally scheduled to launch from Adelboden, Switzerland, on 10th January 2027.

It says it will take viewers to destinations, including Cortina, Kitzbühel, Schladming and Crans-Montana.
Beyond the racing, Sunday in the Mountains will explore what makes each destination unique.
Its terrain and local culture to food, après-ski and adventure.
Athletes, presenters and creators will bring audiences closer to the action, both on and off the slopes.
The ambition is for the show to appeal to lifelong ski and snowboard fans while introducing younger audiences to the excitement of winter sports and the wider world of the mountains.
“The TV industry is lamenting the death of broadcast TV but the future of media is repeatable social formats,” said the founder and CEO of Wavelength, Alistair Gosling.
“Ski Sunday didn’t need fixing, it just needed to adapt and move to where the audience has shifted to.
“The reaction to Ski Sunday’s cancellation shows just how much the programme means to people.
“We want to build on that passion, inspire the next generation of winter sports fans and support the growth of the snowsports industry.
“This is about bringing together the drama of competition, the magic of the mountains and the people who make this world so special.
“By taking the format beyond traditional television, we have an opportunity to build a truly global community around it.”

The combination of weekly episodes and daily social content will also create opportunities for brands and Alpine destinations to connect with audiences through the series and its wider storytelling.
Wavelength and Extreme International are in discussions with potential sponsors, partners and guest presenters, with further announcements expected in the coming weeks.
Earlier the former Ski Sunday presenter, Ed Leigh, teamed up with his co-commentator Tim Warwood to unveil their plans for Ed & Tim’s ‘Snow Globe’:
