Alpine coach crash driver named and praised

He was driving from Alpe d’Huez with 52 British resort workers when the brakes failed. He crashed the bus into the mountainside to prevent it going over the edge. It had been chartered by the company Skibound. The driver died and 3 others remain injured.

A jewel of skiing

A new linked ski area has been created in the Austrian Tirol as Alpbach links up with the resorts in the Wildschonau. It has taken 11 years of heated debate as change happens rather slowly in this part of Austria. PlanetSKI reports from the Ski Juwel.

Colorado opens for skiing

Arapahoe Basin in Colorado fired up its lifts on Wednesday. A couple of other resorts in the USA have opened small patches of snow to claim bragging rights but this is the first decent amount on offer.

The US company has completed the deal to buy the Californian resort of Kirkwood for $18m. It already owns Heavenly and Northstar around Lake Tahoe. The area is undergoing a transformation.
