The referendum was held on Sunday as cases rise sharply. Switzerland has one of the lowest vaccination rates in western Europe. It is the second vote in the last 4-months on Covid19 measures. UPDATED

The Innsbruck state prosecutor has concluded its 18-month probe into criminal liability for the outbreak in the ski resort. There will be no charges for the authorities in Ischgl. There are accusations of a ‘cover up’ from some interested parties.

Ski resorts in the German alpine state were preparing to open in the next few weeks and are watching developments closely as Covid-19 spreads. The government says by the end of this winter everyone in Germany will either be ‘vaccinated, recovered or dead’.NEW

Two more resorts have re-opened as others consider their position. Skiing has been classed as a ‘recreation outdoor’ activity but many resorts have chosen to remain closed. They are planning to open on December 13th after lockdown is lifted. UPDATED

New rules have come into place across Austria this week with unvaccinated people ordered into lockdown. Ischgl will open for skiing as planned at the end of November but the concert is off.

Chamonix in France is offering two to six day free group ski lessons. They are on offer from January 1st 2022 except for the February school holidays.

It is usually the first resort to open its full area in France and often the last one to close. The highest resort in the Alps has a wealth on offer for this coming season in the post-pandemic ski world.

Work on the 4m project has begun at the Scottish resort. It hopes to secure its future for generations to come.

The strangest of seasons Down Under finishes. Most will prefer to forget it, with the bans on international visitors & lockdowns due to Covid-19. A few lucky ones were able to make some final turns with thoughts now on 2022.

Kaunertaler has opened some slopes and joins Hintertux, Soelden and Piztal in the Tirol that have already fired up their lifts. Winter is coming folks! UPDATED

The California ski resort has changed its name after the term ‘squaw’ was widely seen as derogatory. It was described as racist and sexist. NEW

The building at the top of the Scottish ski resort includes the UK’s highest restaurant, as well as a shop, exhibition space and viewing platforms. It  has been closed to the public since the funicular was taken out of service in 2018.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has announced another delay to the repair works. It will come as a blow to the Scottish resort and those that ski and snowboard there.

Two people died in an area last winter and now an access gate has been closed indefinitely. The area is just outside the boundaries of the resort in Utah, USA, but can still be reached by experts.

Ski Resorts in Victoria are set to welcome back skiers and snowboarders but Covid-19 travel restrictions remain in New South Wales. NEW

For the first time in two years, skiers and snowboarders have been able to hit the slopes in Chile as ski areas open with strict Covid-19 rules in place.  Resorts in Argentina are also starting up. UPDATED

Ski areas in Australia and New Zealand are being hit by the effects of Covid-19 for a second winter.  The wider Sydney region has gone into full lockdown for two weeks, putting the local New South Wales resorts out of bounds for residents. And New Zealand has paused its quarantine-free travel bubble with Oz. UPDATED

Whistler and now Revelstoke have closed with immediate effect.  Big White follows suit on Monday blaming increased interest in lift tickets, plus an apres ski party that breached Covid-19 rules.

There are strict new measures across Italy including most of the main ski regions. The whole country goes into a new national lockdown over the Easter weekend.  Any hopes for some ski resorts to open at the end of the season remains a distant dream. UPDATED
