Deadly Summer Avalanches in California

For the past 13 years the US state has seen no deadly avalanches in the summer months. So far this summer there have been two fatalities.

Australia Sees More Heavy Snow

The latest snowstorm to hit the ski resorts is the biggest so far.  It’s not so good in neighbouring New Zealand with resorts in South America now opening. UPDATED

Fatal Avalanche in Swiss Resort on its Last Weekend of the Season

Two skiers were hit by a wet snow avalanche in Samnaun. People still skiing are being urged to be cautious with ‘considerable’ avalanche risk in places as the snow melts and becomes unstable. NEW

16 Ski Tourers Caught in Avalanche Incident in Saas-Fee

Nine were buried and all survived after being dug out. They were taken to hospital and their injuries are described as moderate. Seven other skiers in the area were taken off the mountain. UPDATED

Miracle Rescue for Man Caught in Avalanche in Switzerland

The ski tourer was buried for 6-hours and the crew of a rescue helicopter spotted his waving arm coming from out of the snow. His head was not buried allowing him to breathe.

Three German Heliskiers Die in Canada Avalanche

The accident happened near Panorama in British Columbia. It brings the total number of avalanche fatalities in the Canadian Province this winter to twelve. UPDATED
