Austria is weighed down under historic levels of snow. Elsewhere in the Alps it is a mix of drought and moderate snow.

TOO MUCH SNOW?

The multiple storms in Austria are the biggest in recent memory. Fabulous to see all the snow, but it comes with its problems.

SNOW ON ROOFS

Normally when it dumps we show pictures of cars with snow on their roofs. Now it is buildings too. UPDATED

Austria has been slammed with snow, alpine villages have been evacuated & resorts cut off. Now it’s arrived in France. UPDATED

SNOW IS BACK IN FRANCE

PlanetSKI is in France as finally the snow has begun falling. It follows a dispute about conditions on piste. UPDATED

Five people have been caught in an avalanche in Zermatt. There’s been some wild weather across the Alps, but it’s now settled.

Conditions remain very good across the mountains as the busy half-term week is underway. It’s cold, but not excessively so, with blue sky to come. UPDATED

THE SUN FINALLY COMES OUT!

There are record-breaking depths for January in a number of high resorts. However it’s been mild in the Alps with rain on some lower slopes. UPDATED

HUGE CLEAR UP UNDERWAY

Road/rail links are opening, resorts are being dug out and ski areas cleared. The 4th & largest snowstorm of this month has left over 2m in places.UPDATED

Two Ski Regions in Italy Set to See Further Restrictions

#Piedmont & #Lombardy to be declared #OrangeZones as cases continue to spread.

Ski resorts are currently closed in the regions, and it means there is no immediate prospect of them opening.
